The Wisdom of Sundays
The Wisdom of Sundays is a collection of some of Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday guests whom she felt she had some really big “Aha!” moments with. It is best listened to as an audiobook, since it is a combination of Oprah’s thoughts and a playout of the actual show the guest was on. You get to hear the actual dialogue between Oprah and each of her guests, along with some extra personal snippets and touches Oprah added. However, the hard copy book is one I would encourage you to have around. It is one of the more exquisitely visual books I have had the pleasure of reading and can serve as a reference.
With guests like Michael Singer, Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dwyer, Brené Brown and Bryan Stevenson, The Wisdom of Sundays gives a breathe and edge to learning about some deep topics. Topics such as spirituality, what does it mean to have a “spirit,” different views on “who is God to you?”, the idea of awakening, building awareness, the power of setting intention, the role mindfulness might play in our life, grace, gratitude and forgiveness.
Many of Oprah’s guests are also writers of some excellent books in their own right. So as you listen to this beautifully structured collection Oprah graced us with, you will find other self-growth books that are must haves for your personal collection on this journey we call life.
I encourage you to spend some time with each chapter, really delve into the topics at hand. Re-listen to it more than once, in order to capture all of the nuances and depths of each topic. I feel this would be a great option for a book club, as discussing these topics with others may richen the experience.
Read and listen with intention and focus. I have to tell you the first time I listened to the Audible version of this book, a lot of the content was lost on me, as I was not in a space and place in my life where I could truly absorb it. Since then, I have listened to it four more times and have had different experiences each time. I imagine I will continue to re-listen to it many more times across my life span, as in each new stage in life, listening to this book might have a different feeling and meaning.
You can find the hard copy of the book on Amazon (whom I am an affiliate of and from which I receive a commission for) by clicking here. The Audible version of the book can also be found here.
